We are now in week 5 of 2025 and the calving season has kicked off around the country.
Last week’s figures
- 5,718 calf samples were received into the lab.
- 5,287 calf samples were processed in the lab.
- The average time from birth to sample being received in the lab was 8.8 days.
- The average time a sample spent in the lab last week was 5.3 days.
- The average turnaround time from birth to passport being issued was 14 days
The red weather warning last week caused unavoidable delays. No post was delivered nationally last Friday and the lab was also closed due to the weather warning. There will also be no post delivered next Monday, February 3rd due to the bank holiday. While this is not ideal, farmers are advised to post samples at least twice weekly to reduce the total turnaround times for their herd, in the specific envelopes provided by their tag suppliers.
Download the ICBF HerdPlus app to quickly track the sample through the full genotyping process of animals and submission of calves for the NGP, from the sample being requested, received on farm, sample sent to lab, sire and dam verification to receiving a full genomic evaluation. The genotype tracking now also shows an estimate of when you will receive a result for the sample.
A NEW NGP Action List is now available on the app will highlight which calves require an action to complete registration and will detail what action is required! Make sure you have the latest version downloaded to access the newest features on the app.
