In line with EU Animal Breeding Regulations bulls to be used for purebred breeding must be sire and dam parentage verified before an AI code is issued.
Please note that all AI bulls must have their semen collected in accordance with EU Health Regulations.
- ICBF issues AI codes on all new AI sires. If you need to get an AI code for a bull please follow the following steps:
- Confirm with the Breed Society that the Bull’s details have been entered.
- The bull’s full back ancestry will need to be on the database.
- The bull’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name.
- His sire’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name.
- His dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name.
- His Grand sire’s and Grand dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name.
- His Great Grand sire’s and Grand Dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name.
- It is important to ensure that any ancestors of the bull being coded are identified before this process takes place so as duplicate animals are not created.
- All genetic defect test results should also be entered e.g. CVM/BLAD.
- The bull will need to be genotyped before an AI code can be issued and for purebred breeding must be sire and dam parentage verified
2. Contact ICBF on 0238820452 or [email protected] for an AI code.
It is important that people don’t leave it until the last minute to look for an AI Code as from the time the straw/hair sample goes to the lab (every Tuesday) the process to get a genotype takes approximately ten days.
