ICBF issues AI Codes on all new AI Sires. If you need to get an AI Code for a bull, please follow the below steps:
- Confirm with the Breed Society that the Bull’s details have been entered.
- The bull’s full back ancestry will need to be on the database
- The bull’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name
- His Sire’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name
- His Dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name
- His Grand sire’s and Grand dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name
- His Great Grand sire’s and Grand Dam’s tag number/herdbook number, date of birth & name
- It is important to ensure that any ancestors of the bull being coded are identified before this process takes place so as duplicate animals are not created
- All genetic defect test results should also be entered e.g. CVM/BLAD
- If the bull is only sire verified – this needs to be recorded
- If the bull is sire and dam verified – this needs to be recorded
- The bull will need to be genotyped before an AI Code can be issued
- Contact ICBF [email protected] or 0238820452 for an AI code.
It is important that people don’t leave it until the last minute to look for an AI Code as from the time the straw/hair sample goes to the lab (every Wednesday) the process to get a genotype takes approximately ten days.
