The 2015 Proportion of calvings by month have now been released. These figures are based on over 1.25 million dairy dams and over 980,000 beef dams.
The most visible pattern that can be seen from the dairy results is that 57% of all calvings took place during the months of February and March with 81% of calvings taking place from January through April. This is hardly surprising given the high percentage of spring calving herds in this country.
Looking at the beef results, the calving pattern isn’t quite as compact with 28% of all calvings taking place in February and March. The highest number of calvings at 19% took place in April. 54% of beef calvings took place from January through April which is 27% less than the Dairy figures. Beef calvings took place predominantly in the Spring time with the results not quite as compact as the Dairy results.
The 2016 calvings statistics are currently being compiled and will be available very soon. More statistics can be found on the ICBF Statistics page.
